GUJRAT: Villagers celebrated construction of the first carpeted road in the most remote rural area near Dinga in the district, as the 7km Chiman-to-Dhakaranwali road along the water channel was inaugurated by PML-N MPA Tariq Mehmood.

The fast-track and wide road will link dozens of villages with the Dinga-to-Mungowal and Dinga-to-Kunjah roads that had been constructed with Rs71. 2 million. The PP-113 Dinga was the only constituency across the district that would have two carpeted roads under the Chief Minister’s Rural Road Programme; the second one linking Dinga and Kunjah would be carpeted with Rs40 million.

Ghulam Rasool Kassana, a former nazim of Chakori Sher Ghazi Union Council, said the people of rural areas could only dream of such a carpeted road with the construction of which a dream had come true. It would play a vital role in the uplift and prosperity of the area that had been considered most backward in terms of infrastructure development, he added.

He sought construction of concrete walls along the irrigation water channel Rajba 9 located along the newly built road so that water could not damage it.

MPA Mehmood said with the construction of the two carpeted roads in rural areas of Dinga, farmers would get easy and fast access from farms to the market, which would help in economic uplift of the area. He claimed

he had already got approval for the construction of a water channel for the safety of Chiman Road.

CONFERENCE: The 61st conference of Common Wealth Parliamentary Association (CWPA) will be held in Islamabad in October. This was decided at the recently held 60th conference of the association in the African Republic of Cameroon a few days ago.

Chairman of the Asian desk and executive member of the CWPA, MPA Tariq Mehmood, who attended the last meeting in Cameroon, told Dawn though some member countries were opposed to holding of the next conference in Pakistan, but finally he was able to convince the executive committee in its favour. It was a remarkable achievement for the Pakistani delegation that was led by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
