HYDERABAD, Oct 2: The University of Sindh has awarded five post-doctorate scholarships to its faculty members of various disciplines.

This was decided at a meeting of higher training and scholarship committee of the university held on Thursday.

The meeting was informed by the director finance that an amount of Rs8.9 million has been sanctioned in the current financial year to award scholarships to candidates for the PhD programme abroad.

It was resolved that a request will be made to the Higher Education Commission for financial assistance as matching grant for PhD scholarships to university faculty members.

About the utilization of endowment fund of the faculty development programme, it was decided to form a committee for framing rules and regulations.

The meeting also discussed applications of 11 candidates for award of scholarship for post doctorate programme and decided to award five scholarship which included four faculty members from the faculty of natural sciences and one faculty member from the faculty of Islamic Studies.

Vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui presided over the meeting.

ADABI BOARD: The Sindhi Adabi Board Press Employee Union (CBA) has welcomed the appointment of Inam Shaikh as the secretary of the board.

The union leaders, Sikandar Ali Dars, Mohammad Urs Domro, Ghulam Haider and Aijaz Ali Jafri on Thursday met with the new secretary and apprised him of problems of employees.

The union leaders also welcomed the appointment of Sindh education minister Irfanullah Marwat as the new chairman of the Board as well as members of the governing body.
