IIFA 2015: Soch band nominated in Best Music Directors category

You'd think the pop/rock band Soch would be on to their next big thing by now, but the song that shot them to fame is still picking up honours!

Their song 'Awari', which was included in the soundtrack of Mohit Suri's Ek Villian, has been nominated at International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2015 in the Best Music Direction category.

This is the fourth nomination for the band in India; Soch has previously been nominated at Brittania Filmfare Awards, GIMA Awards and Life Ok Screen Awards (where the band won the Best Music Award).

At IIFA 2015, the band is up against Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (2 States), Vishal Bhardwaj (Haider) and Mithoon, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Pritam and Arko Pravo Mukherjee (Yaariyan) in the Best Music Director category.

Music directors for other tracks of Ek Villian —Mithoon ('Banjara', 'Zaroorat' and 'Hamdard') and Ankit Tiwari ('Galliyan') — have also been nominated.

IIFA 2015 kicks off on June 5 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Why do movies have songs? Hindi cinema is really sub standard... No wonder it's called Bollywood!!

@JAKOJI - Hindi cinema has songs in movies since 100 years. Just because Hollywood does not have songs doesnt mean Hindi films also should not have it. Dance and songs are intrinsic part of Indian culture and the films just reflect that....

What escapes JAKOJI is that music, singing, celebrating with dances is such an integral part of life of people of India and Pakistan. There is not one occasion, such as marriage, birth, death, worship, season change, harvesting, for which there are no songs going back hundreds of years. Music has its origin in Nature. If Hindi and Urdu cinema did not have songs, the poetical genius of so many would not be known to the masses. From Meera, Mir, Ghalib, Dard, Sauda, Iqbal, Faiz and Faraz to Sahir, Majrooh, Shakeel, Zafar, Shailendra, and numerous others would not be the source of inspiration and comfort to millions. Yet the fact is music and singing is so much in the DNA of people.
