LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), Oct 1: The Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) has approved installation of a 300-line telephone exchange in Torkhum near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

The approval was made after several complaints by area residents were lodged about difficulties in acquiring telephone connections in and around Torkhum.

At present, around 100 telephone lines in Torkhum are connected with the Landi Kotal telephone exchange.

Faizullah, a PCO owner said there were around 100 telephone lines operating in Torkhum.

He said that a new subscriber had to pay Rs20,000 to Rs25,000 to get a telephone connection.

The PTCL authorities in Peshawar said that installation work on the exchange would start during the current financial year.

They said the provision of modern telecommunication system in Torkhum would also help boost economic and trade activities.
