ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has offered technical help to Myanmar in different fields, including education, trade and defence.

The offer was extended by President Mamnoon Hussain when Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services of Myanmar, called on him at the Presidency on Thursday.

The Myanmar commander also held meetings with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif.

According to the president’s spokesperson, Mr Hussain offered to provide training to Myanmar in education, defence and other sectors.

The spokesperson quoted the president as saying: “Pakistan desires to enhance its relations with Myanmar in the fields of trade, commerce, defence and tourism.”

The president apprised the guest on operation Zarb-i-Azb against terrorists and said it was progressing successfully.

The president said that bilateral trade between the two countries was below its true potential and needed to be enhanced.

The president expressed the hope that the government of Myanmar would provide equal treatment to all minorities, including Muslims.
