Brahvi

Published May 5, 2015

Brahvi is one of the oldest languages of the region, but it has not been included in CSS examinations. The Brahvi-speaking tribes dominate the famous Sarawan-Jhalawan regions of Balochistan and have also a considerable presence in Sindh, Iran and the Middle East.

Brahvi, a language heavily influenced by Persian and Balochi, is also included in Bachelor’s and Master’s courses. However, the Federal Public Service Commission does not include it in optional subjects of Group-7 (subjects were aligned for 2016 examinations).

Authorities concerned should do the needful to allow Brahvi-speaking people to adopt their mother tongue as a subject in competitive examinations. Doing so will not only help resuscitate the language, but also send a positive signal to the people of Balochistan.
