ISLAMABAD: The Serena Hotel-Subh-e-Nau National Ranking Tennis Championship will be staged here at the Islamabad Tennis Club from May 12.

Top-ranking players of the country will participate in the week-long event.

“We hope over 150 players, including country’s top-ranked players, will participate in this championship,” said Shahida Kauser, chairperson of Subh-e-Nau.

It is relevant to mention here that while Subh-e-Nau, an NGO, has been regularly organising various national tennis events for quite sometime, majority of the Pakistan Tennis Federation-affiliated units have failed to hold mandatory national championships for the last five years. According to the PTF constitution, the affiliated units are bound to hold at least one national-level tournament annually.

Interested players can send their entries for six different categories — men’s singles, men’s doubles, ladies’ singles, boys’ juniors U-18 singles, boys’ juniors U-14 singles and veterans doubles.

Mahvish Chishtie will be the tournament director. Players can contact Shahzad Akhtar Alvi, tournament referee for entries at 051-9212846, 0333-5158971 or Subh-e-Nau office at 051-4432194, 0321-7059269 latest by May 10.

Players can also send email at subhenau@gmail.com for entries or any query regarding the event.
