LAHORE: The Punjab capital reportedly escaped on Monday a strong windstorm after its intensity weakened before it hit the city.

Met Department officials term it a sort of gusty windstorm having a north-west direction with 60km per hour speed.

An official told Dawn: “We were not even expecting this speed, as it should have a 30 to 40km per hour speed amid light rain according to Monday’s weather forecast. The 60-km speed was surprising for us.”

He said since the windstorm moved from Gujranwala, it might have a speed of over 70km per hour or so in the evening. But it didn’t cause any sort of damage in Gujranwala or Lahore reportedly, the official said. Some northern parts of the city, including Mughalpura and Harbanspura, also received light rain which turned the weather pleasant.

The Met office has forecast more windstorm with rain in Lahore and its adjoining areas during the next 24 hours.
