Karachi operation

Published April 28, 2015

THE Rangers’ operation in Karachi is becoming controversial as only one political party is being targeted. There is a growing feeling that the operation is not across the board and not even-handed.

People are questioning the partiality of the action as other political parties are enjoying immunity. The public also wants to know why action is not being taken against bigwigs involved in mega economic crimes like corruption, money laundering, tax evasion, smuggling, land grabbing.

There is another view that the targeted operation has not been extended to Punjab where the Taliban are well-entrenched and have carried out terrorist attacks. Besides, the law and order situation in Punjab is poor and targeted killings, burning people alive, honour killings, rape, acid throwing, are not uncommon.

People fear that if the Karachi operation ends in a fiasco as was the case in the past, there is likely to be unimaginable chaos and turmoil across the country. This is the last chance for the military establishment to save the state through non-partisan actions across the country.
