KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Kanwar Naveed Jameel has asked the federal government to stop what he called a “stepmotherly treatment meted out to Karachi”.

Speaking at a press conference at his central election office in the Jinnah ground on Friday, Mr Jameel, who has won the by-election on NA-246 with a huge margin, vowed to raise the issues of his constituency and struggle for the rights of Karachi in parliament.

He said that Karachi would not benefit from recent accords between Pakistan and China.

The MNA-elect said that the governments of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Pakistan Peoples Party had not given any priority to Karachi in approving mega projects.

He expressed gratitude to the people of the NA-246 constituency for coming out of their homes in scorching heat to cast their votes for his victory.

He said that a large number of voters did not exercise their right to franchise because of the inefficiency of the Election Commission of Pakistan, which had given its powers to Rangers.

He said that the Rangers personnel were not trained for holding elections and they made their own rules to enforce discipline in the polling stations.
