ISLAMABAD: On the opening day of men’s singles main draw, two unseeded players Abdul Haider and Jibran-ul-Haq made upsets while defeating top seeded players at the Pakistan Tennis Federation Tennis Complex here on Friday.

In the main draw of Subh-e-Nau Earth Day National Clay Court Tennis Championship, Abdul Haider beat eighth seed Shahzad of PAF 6-4, 6-1 while Jibran outclassed fourth seed Yasir Khan 7-5, 6-7.

Both unseeded players played aggressive game and didn’t allow their experienced opponents show their skills. Top seed Aqeel Khan also registered victory be eliminating Nofil Kaleem in straight sets.

In U-18 tournament, all seeded players except Mohammad Muzamil won their respective matches.

Muzamil had to face defeat at the hands of his brother Mohammad Mudasir. The senior Mohammad outclassed his brother 6-7(8), 6-4, 6-3.

In U-14 matches, Huzaifa defeated Haseeb 4-1, 4-1 while Zian Asghar was given walkover against Bhadur.
