GUJRAT: A seminar on “The Role of University of Gujrat (UoG) in Community Development” was organized by the journalist community at the Press Club here on Thursday.

The main objective of the seminar was to endorse efforts of the UoG in developing and helping the community by introducing it with new paths of progress through learning and research.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Ziaul Qayyum was the chief guest while Gujrat Press Club president Abdul Sattar presided over the seminar. A large number of journalists, lawyers, intellectuals and members of civil society were also present.

Dr Qayyum said the UoG had a great impact on society because education helped in resolving social problems.

He said the innovative thinking could bring positive changes in society, adding that dialogues among different factions of society could bring peace and harmony.

He said the faculty and administration of UoG was trying hard to strengthen academia-industry linkages to achieve economic growth through its research projects.

The VC said the creation of new knowledge through quality education was the basic responsibility of universities.

He appealed to the civil society to help the UoG Endowment Fund in raising funds for a sustainable and secured institution.

He said that training workshops for journalists would continue on the premises of the university.

Gujrat Bar Association secretary-general Asif Masood said that action always spoke louder than words.

He emphasized upon the practical aspect of issues for bringing a constructive change in society.

EDO (Education) Kashif Tahir said the UoG had been transformed into a symbol of knowledge which was promoting intellectual values in the area.

He said the UoG had revolutionized social progress and was imparting a quality education to students.

Journalists Muhammad Younas Saqi said the UoG had accomplished a lifelong dream of the area people.

He said we could achieve the goal of social progress and community development through revival of dialogue in society.

Gujrat’s PMA president Dr Maqsood Zahid said the UoG had achieved a lot in a short span of time.

Journalist Basharat Lodhi said that universities had an important role to play in promoting social values in society.

He said the UoG, in collaboration with the civil society, was working hard for the community welfare.
