No let up in sale of fireworks

KASUR, Sept 29: The production and sale of fireworks started one month ahead of Shab-i-Barat this year much to the agony of heart patients, according to a survey.

Dozens of factories are producing fireworks round-the-clock and employing teenage boys and girls for the purpose. These factories are situated at Bhata Goryan Wala, Qatal Gari, Steel Bagh, Qadi Wind Road, Peerowala Road, Dingi Pura and Basti Qadarabad.

Human rights committee chairman Chaudhry Azeem Ahmad, Baitul Maal chairman Hafiz Mohammad Aslam, doctors’ association patron-in-chief Dr S.M. Safdar, traders’ association president Akram Mughal and many other social workers have urged the district Nazim, DCO, and DPO and tehsil Nazim to take action against these factories.

LOOTED: Two persons were tortured and looted at Aulakh Morr in Phool Nagar.

Police said Advocate Rana Yasin and Akbar Jat were going to Lahore in a car, when they were intercepted by five persons, dragged out of the car and taken to a shop, where they were tortured and deprived of wrist watches and Rs13,000 in cash before being released.

The Phool Nagar police have registered a case against the accused.

ATTACK ON POLICE: Twelve people attacked a police party and got a proclaimed offender released at Khingrian Wala Khuddian.

Police said that acting on a tip-off, they had raided the haveli of one Shabab Din to apprehend PO Mohammad Moosa. However, Shabab Din and 11 others allegedly attacked the police party later on to get the PO released.

The Khuddian police have registered a case.

WIRE STOLEN: Unknown thieves stole Wapda wire worth Rs252,000 from Dholan Khuddian. Police registered a case on the report of the SDO concerned.
