PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has ordered merger of all the Maktab schools in the province into the government primary schools, while rejecting a proposal to abolish about 1,000 such institutions.

The chief minister issued the directives while chairing a high level meeting here on Monday to review performance of district administrations.

Provincial chief secretary, additional chief secretary, senior member of the Board of Revenue, administrative secretaries of concerned departments and all divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners were in attendance.

Mr Khattak directed to grant special prizes to those workers and officials who helped achieve the goals of polio eradication campaigns.

He also directed to incentivise the endeavours of the officers of the Reforms Implementation Cell for devising an effective electronic system for monitoring the performance of district administrations.

During the meeting, the CM was informed about output of district administrations during the last two months in 11 major sectors of operations, and the districts bearing good or unsatisfactory performance were clearly identified by the monitoring system.

These sectors included polio eradication, performance of district administrations, municipal services, anti-encroachment drive, health services, monitoring of schools, price checking, CNG and petrol stations checking, adulteration of food, quacks and spurious drugs.

The chief minister expressed dissatisfaction over sale of substandard food items and spurious drugs and ordered more stringent action against those who were found responsible for such illegal activities.

He also directed the authorities concerned to take necessary arrangements for establishing foods and drugs testing laboratories at divisional level.

Taking notice of delay in formation of water supply and sanitation companies at divisional and district levels, he also directed to expedite implementation of the orders already issued in this respect.

Mr Khattak further directed to take necessary measures for making budgetary allocations for cleanliness and hygiene purposes at village level.

Directing for employment of those who donated lands for setting up government schools, the CM asked all government departments to obtain approval of all new expenditures as soon as the 80 per cent of construction work of the public facilities was completed so that such facilities could be utilised in the people’s interest.

Mr Khattak directed the concerned departments to present proposals and schemes for establishing civic facilities on the state lands and roads which were got freed from encroachments.
