KARACHI: Residents of Karachi have been asked to carry their computerised national identity cards (CNICs) with them at all time and warned that failure to do so can result in their detention, according to a Rangers handout.

"Citizens of Karachi are requested to keep with them, their ID Cards at all times for confirmation of their identity," the Rangers statement said adding that, "Copies of NIC will not be acceptable and the individual in question will be taken into custody till his/ her identity is positively proven."

The statement further said that law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) are working day and night to arrest criminals and target killers and asked citizens to cooperate in the drive against criminals.

Citizens are urged to report any attempt to snatch or collect your NIC, on Rangers SMS or helpline 1101.

The latest development comes amid a joint grand targeted operation which was launched with great fanfare in September 2013 in the hopes of improving the law and order situation in Karachi.
