SIALKOT: Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) on Sunday evening resorted to unprovoked shelling across the Working Boundary in Shakargarh, to which Pakistan Rangers retaliated accordingly, said a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ISPR said an appropriate response from Pakistan Rangers resulted in a halt in firing from across the border.

Instances of unprovoked firing across the Indo-Pak border have occurred intermittently over the years.

In March 2015, Indian border forces opened unprovoked fire on some villages in the Charwah sector along the Working Boundary, senior officials of the Chenab Rangers had said.

At the time Pakistani officials had alleged that the Indian BSF personnel had violated the ceasefire accord and targeted civilian population.

A similar incident was also reported in January this year, when the Indian BSF resorted to unprovoked intensified heavy mortar shelling on several Pakistani villages along the Working Boundary in Sialkot, killing four Pakistani civilians.

“Four civilians were martyred this evening due to Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shelling on civilian population in Shakargarh/Sialkot sectors,” a military spokesman had said at the time.
