LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court judge on Friday remanded Mustafa Kanju and his four guards in judicial custody for 14 days in the murder of a teenage boy.

The Crime Investigations Agency (CIA) police produced Kanju, the son of a former minister, and others before the judge after the completion of eight-day physical remand. Judge Harron Lateef also directed the police to complete investigation till the next hearing.

Kanju is accused of shooting to death Zain, 16, and injuring Hasnain, 18, on April 2.

Pensioners’ payment: The Lahore High Court on Friday discarded a schedule presented by the Punjab government for payment of pension with increased benefit to pensioners and directed it to come up with a revised suitable schedule.

The secretary of the Finance and Accountant General, Punjab, submitted the schedule and said the increased pension would be fully paid to pensioners till 2020.

The counsel for pensioners opposed the schedule and said the government was increasing sufferings of the petitioners. The court observed that injustice to pensioners could not be tolerated.

Rejecting the pensions’ payment schedule, the court directed the government to submit a rational plan of payment and adjourned the hearing till April 27.

Plea dismissed: The Lahore High Court on Friday dismissed a petition for being non-maintainable that sought a direction for the Punjab Assembly speaker to accept resignations tendered by parliamentarians from the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

The registrar’s office had put an objection on the maintainability of the petition and the court also upheld the decision.

The court said it could not interfere in the assembly proceedings.
