THE mode of billing by the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is creating problems.

Previously, for 250 units, gas consumption was charged for the first 100 units @ Rs106.14 per MMBTU as per the first slab for 0-100 units, and the balance of 150 units was charged @ Rs212.28 per MMBTU as per the second higher slab for 100-300 units.

Now the SSGC has started charging all 250 units @ Rs212.28 as per the second higher slab, skipping the first slab, thereby increasing the bill amount by more than 100pc. Thus, showing undue increase in gas revenue and causing huge loss to consumers.

I hope that Ogra, the ombudsman and the Council for the Protection of Consumers will take notice of the undue increase in domestic consumers’ gas bills by the SSGC.
