KARACHI: The quartet of Sadam-ul-Haq, Waqas Mehboob, Ahsan Ayaz and Abbas Shoukat stepped into main draw by winning qualifiers of the US$15,000 11th Chief of the Naval Staff International Squash Championship at the PN Roshan Khan-Jahangir Khan squash complex here on Friday.

Two of the quartet — Sadam and Abbas — have shown promise as they have first won the pre qualifiers followed by qualifiers. The former removed Abbas Maniar straight 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 in 28 minutes while the latter sent sixth seed Mansoor Zaman packing by default 12-10, 6-11, 11-5, 8-4 (retired hurt) in 35 minutes.

In the two other matches, Waqas Mehboob prevailed over sibling Waqar Mehboob 11-7, 4-11, 12-10, 11-5 while Ahsan Ayaz handed a 11-2, 11-3, 11-4 drubbing to Haseeb Gul.

Meanwhile, Nasir Iqbal has been top seeded in the 16-man draw followed by Aamir Atlas Khan.

The main round begins on Saturday at 12noon.
