LAKKI MARWAT: The wildlife department on Monday foiled a bid to illegally transport cranes from Balochistan to Bannu district.

An official said that a team of wildlife department stopped two passenger coaches at Wanda Banoci checkpoint on Bannu-D I Khan road and recovered 24 cranes from the vehicles.

The wildlife officials booked two crane hunters identified as Noor Ayaz and Fida hailing from Bannu district.

“The wildlife officials imposed a fine of Rs60,000 on the poachers for illegally transporting the birds,” he added.

Dispute resolution councils: Regional Police Officer Mohammad Tahir Khan has asked the district police authorities to activate dispute resolution councils to resolve feuds among people amicably.

He was addressing a police darbar at the police lines here on Monday. DPO Ali and other local police officials were also present on the occasion.

The RPO listened to the problems and grievances of police personnel and issued on spot orders for their solution. He said that police showed gallantry in the fight against terrorism and militancy during the last several years.

Mr Khan said that sacrifices rendered by Lakki Marwat police force would be written in golden words in the history of the department.

He said that protection of life and property of people was the prime duty of police.

He asked the policemen to utilise their energies to eradicate crimes and provide the people with a peaceful atmosphere.

Mr Khan also called upon the police officials to engage local elders to ensure result-oriented action against anti-social elements. He said that a utility store outlet, a canteen and a gym club would be established at the police lines.
