PESHAWAR, Sept 27: The NWFP government has proposed to the National Reconstruction Bureau to ease its system of taking action against corrupt district Nazims.

Talking to Dawn, an official said the provincial government had requested the NRB to adopt an effective accountability procedure for district Nazims in place of the existing lengthy process, involving the chief minister and provincial assembly.

Sources said the request had been conveyed to the bureau when its review committee met here on Thursday with NRB chairman Danyal Aziz.

The NWFP local government department had informed the NRB chairman that the current mechanism for external recall was complicated and it had generated a tug of war between the district Nazims and the provincial chief executive.

The provincial government has started proceedings for the removal of district Nazims Bannu and Kohistan in the light of the inquiry commission reports. However, despite the passage of many months, the special committee of the provincial assembly could not complete the process.
