LARKANA: AJK President Sardar Mohammed Yaqoob and Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed called on PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari at Naudero House on Sunday and briefed him about the political situation, budget and development plans for Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

They informed Mr Zardari that the AJK government was concentrating on education and it had set up three medical colleges, four universities, one university for women and one information technology university.

MNA Faryal Talpur and Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari attended the meeting.

The PPP co-chairman had lunch with the AJK president, prime minister and his cabinet members.

Mr Zardari, Ms Bakhtawar and Sherry Rehman later went to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh and offered fateha and laid wreaths at the graves of the Bhuttos.

Tariq Naqash adds from Muzaffarabad: Talking to Dawn, an AJK minister claimed that during the meeting the PPP co-chairperson dissolved all organisations of the party in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The decision came after the party’s AJK chapter leaders briefed him on the party’s recent defeat in Mirpur by-election at the hands of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

“The dissolution means that Chaudhry Abdul Majeed is no more president of the party’s AJK chapter,” said the minister who attended the briefing.

Other office bearers from central to district levels also stood removed, the minister said, requesting anonymity.
