PESHAWAR: The students of Khushal Khan Khattak University, Karak have alleged that irregularities were made in the appointment of employees including teaching staff of the university.

Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, the leaders of Khushal Youth Organisation (KYO) demanded of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak to order probe into the matter. They also urged Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan to intervene in the affairs Khushal Khan Khattak (KKK) University, Karak to save it.

“Since 2012 a single vacant post in the university has not been advertised in any newspaper. The entire recruitment process was carried out on the basis of politics and personal relationship in violation of merit,” alleged Ijaz Ali Khan, a representative of KYO.

He said that the university advertised recently several vacant posts but the position of personal assistant to vice-chancellor was not mentioned in the advertisement. He alleged that the person, who was already working as personal assistant to the vice-chancellor, was very influential and grabbed the seat in violation of merit.

“We have collected data through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act which reveals that some of the high level officials including vice-chancellor, registrar, treasure, professors, assistant professors, lecturer, office superintendent and others don’t have their joining date in the record,” the KYO leader said. Flanked by some other students including Waqas Ahamd Shaheen Khattak and Majid Mumtaz, he said that the data also showed that almost all the hired employees of various grade including Basic Pay Scale (BPS) 17 and 18 had been working on fixed pay for the past three years.

“If the higher administrative authority has been giving extension to these employees since 2012 then it is clear violation of merit and against the rights of the candidates, who fulfil merit but still wait for employment,” Mr Khan said.

The KYO leader said that an employee of education department was sent to the university on deputation. “He is working on two posts -- media in-charge and lecturer in media studies department -- at the same time,” he added. Similarly, Mr Khan alleged, lecturers were inducted in geology department without any advertisement. A retired professor was hired by the university administration for running the geology department, he added.
