MANSEHRA: At least 10 passengers of a family, including six women, were killed when a speeding Jeep fell into a ditch in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's Mansehra district Friday morning.

The Jeep travelling from Balakot to Sangar plunged into a ditch when the driver lost control of the speeding vehicle.

As a result, 10 people, including six women belonging to the same family were killed while three others sustained injuries.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the accident site immediately and began a rescue operation to extract the victims and transport them to the hospital.

The bodies of slain passengers were sent on their way to the passengers' village while those injured were shifted to Mansehra's Shah Abdullah Tadreesi Hospital.

However, an injured passenger who was reported to be in a critical condition was transported to Ayub Medical Hospital in Abbottabad.

According to police sources, the fatal incident took place as the family was on its way back after receiving a relative from the airport who had just returned from Umrah.

Traffic accidents are common in Mansehra and surrounding areas due its mountainous terrain, narrow roads and deep ravines.
