KARACHI: A dog bite management clinic has opened at the Murshid Hospital and Health Care Centre, Baldia Town, on Saturday.
The charity hospital located on the Hub River road is the fourth health facility in the city that will provide treatment for dog bite cases.
“Located close to Balochistan, the hospital can now dispense life-saving treatment to dog bite patients living in remote areas. Earlier, such patients had to travel long distances to the city and received treatment either at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Civil Hospital or the Indus Hospital,” said senior consultant on infectious diseases Dr Naseem Salahuddin, who has supervised the training of health staff on post-exposure prophylaxis for rabies at the Indus Hospital.
These sessions, she said, involved hands-on training on the administration of intradermal injections that reduces treatment cost substantially. “With the help of this method we spent around Rs2.2 million on over 9,000 patients in six years.
