ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday supported the raid on the MQM’s headquarters by the Rangers and said it would help improve law and order situation in the city.

Talking to reporters after his meeting with the Nadra chairman, the PTI chief said the “belated” action of law-enforcement agencies in Karachi would lead the MQM to get rid of its London-based leader Altaf Hussain. Such an action against the party should have been taken years ago, he added.

Imran Khan accused Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari of trying to protect the MQM chief.

“Who doesn’t know about MQM’s involvement in violent acts,” he said.

He called for similar actions against all militant groups operating in the city regardless of their party affiliation.

The PTI chief said that time had come for the people of Karachi to get rid of the politics of violence.

He said military courts should be set up in Karachi because people in the city did not appear as witnesses against criminals for fear of the MQM.

Imran Khan called upon all parties to change the way of their politics and refrain from using violence for achieving political objectives.

About his meeting with the Nadra chairman, the PTI chief said he had been assured that thumb impression-based verification of votes in NA-122 would be completed within a month as per court orders.

He expressed the hope that Nadra’s findings would prove his party’s allegations about rigging in the 2013 general elections.
