WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama has nominated veteran diplomat David Hale as the next ambassador to Pakistan.

A career foreign service official, Mr Hale is currently the US Ambassador to Lebanon.

Mr Obama named him for the post on Tuesday and if confirmed by the Senate, Mr Hale would replace Richard Olson, who has been US ambassador in Islamabad since September 2012.

Born 1961, Mr Hale is a graduate of the Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, and a native of New Jersey. He joined the Foreign Service in 1984.
