ISLAMABAD: The parliamentary committee on judges’ appointment confirmed on Tuesday the elevation of Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik as the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court (LHC).

The committee presided over by Senator Malik M. Rafique Rajwana confirmed the nominations of four LHC and two Peshawar High Court (PHC) judges and endorsed recommendations for extending one-year term to six additional judges of the LHC.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has recommended on Feb 28 confirmation of service of four LHC’s additional judges — Justices Atir Mahmood, Shahid Bilal Hassan, Aalia Neelum and Abid Aziz — and two Peshawar High Court’s additional judges — Justices Muhammad Daud Khan and Syed Afsar Shah.

It also recommended one-year extension to the service of the additional judges — Justices James Josef, Zafarullah Khan Khakwani, Shams Mahmood Mirza, Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi, Shahid Jamil Khan and Faisal Zaman Khan.

The committee considered a draft bill titled Islamabad High Court Act 2010 for amendment to Section 3 to provide for the Islamabad High Court to have representation from all the provinces, the Islamabad Capital Territory and other territories.
