KARACHI: An activist of the Pakistan Peoples Party students’ wing was gunned down in a suspected sectarian attack on University Road on Monday evening, police said.

Sajjad Hussain, 32, was riding a motorbike when armed men attacked him near Samama shopping mall, said an official at the Mobina Town police station.

The victim sustained two gunshot wounds in the chest, abandoned the motorbike and tried to flee but fell down due to excessive bleeding, said Gulshan SP Abid Qaimkhani.

He was taken to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival, the officer said.

The murder appeared to be motivated by sectarian considerations though the victim was a worker of Peoples Students Federation, the PPP students wing, the officer added.

The deceased belonging to the Shia community was a resident of Hussain Hazara Goth in Gulistan-i-Jauhar. He originally hailed from Gilgit, the police said.
