ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) will announce on Monday its verdict on Mumtaz Qadri’s appeal against his conviction in the murder case of then governor of Punjab Salman Taseer.
An anti-terrorism court of Rawalpindi had in Oct 2011 awarded death sentence to Qadri, a former commando of Punjab police’s Elite Force, for assassinating Mr Taseer in Islamabad’s Kohsar Market.

According to the cause list issued on the website of the IHC, a division bench comprising Justices Noorul Haq N. Qureshi and Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui will announce the verdict on Monday.

The bench had reserved the judgment on Feb 11 after Advocate General of Islamabad, Mian Abdul Rauf, the prosecutor in the case, and Qadri’s counsel, including Lahore High Court’s former chief justice Khawaja Mohammad Sharif and retired Justice Mian Nazeer – concluded their arguments.
