ISLAMABAD: Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has announced that a 100-day programme had been prepared for achieving disbursement and welfare objectives.

Marvi Memon, recently-appointed chairperson of the BISP, made the statement during a meeting with country heads of the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and the UK Department for International Development on Friday.

She assured the donors that the BISP would implement the suggestions of development partners while organising a strategic retreat to determine the future role of this social safety net.

The BISP would focus on more beneficiaries with ‘Cash Transfer Cards’ in every district, update national socio-economic registry, expand the ‘conditional cash transfer programme’ through collaboration with the provinces, review the graduation model and improve the outreach to beneficiaries.

Similarly, efficiency in payments through improved service culture was another BISP target, she said, adding: “BISP and the government appreciate the assistance of the World Bank, the ADB and the DFID in making it a success story in the world of social safety nets”.

DFID Country Head Richard Montgomery, World Bank Country Director Rachid Ben Messaoud and the ADB Country Director Werner E. Liepach said the programme was an example for nations around the world. It is a highway to reach the poor through which any social assistance package can be launched; a clinic where first aid is provided to the poor and a school to produce quality human capital and investment.
