PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan said the KP Assembly’s future hinges on a crucial meeting between the ruling PTI and its coalition members on Thursday.
The meeting, which is to be held at the CM House, will make clear whether the provincial assembly will be dissolved, said the PTI chief in a press conference on Wednesday.
Mr. Khan said he will not bear horse trading and those MPs who do not vote on party lines in the upcoming Senate elections on Friday will be dealt with strictly.
The PTI chief said if a majority does not vote for the party’s nominated candidate, he will have no option but to dissolve the KP assembly.
He maintained his opposition to secret balloting and said elections for the Upper House should also be conducted directly. “PTI members will vote only for government and its coalition nominees,” Khan said.
Imran Khan also criticised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for laying down the foundations of horse trading in Pakistan’s politics.
Senate polls and horse-trading
With the Senate polls approaching, the issue of horse-trading has been debated heatedly in the past few weeks. The KP Assembly, in particular, passed a unanimous resolution against the use of money to buy votes in Senate election.
There were even talks of a 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, whereby Senate polls would have taken place by show of hands instead of secret ballots. The proposition was also backed by PML-N in addition to the PTI and its coalition members. But the government was unable to gather enough support from other political parties to table the bill.
In such a scenario, there are fears that some MPs may deviate from party lines and not vote for their party's nominated candidates in the upcoming Senate election.

He is absolutely right, when votes are openly being bought thats not democracy but corruption, when courts become silent instead of punishing those who sell votes for senate elections. These people shouldnt represent people of Pakistan.
Any senators elected through horse trading should be stripped off their membership!
Punish, its a crime! selling a vote is a crime.

Imran, this is a typical case of musical chairs... these guys are taking turns... if you wanna bring change talk to Musharraf... he has darn good understanding of the situation and would help you immensely if taken on-board... interim government of technocrats for 5 years is the only situation... would re-write constitution... if you can't do that than retire and let others play...

@ExPat If the PTI MPAs vote other than PTI and its coalition's nominees then they don't believe in IK's philosophy and they don't have a right to continue enjoying the perks of being MPAs on IK's name because they only got votes because of IK. They would only deviate from their leader's vision if they don't believe in it and in fact get sold for some money and if they can be sold for some money then the only solution is to dissolve the assembly to get rid of corrupt people bringing corrupt senators. Well done IK. I support IK fully!!

This isn't just about horse trading but also dictatorial practices. Bottom line is any member should be able to vote for whomever they deem as appropriate. If a good legislation is proposed or a person of integrity is nominated for a position, then both members from the government or opposition should be able to support that or not, likewise a US Congress, Senate, House of Commons etc.
When it comes to financial interests, it’s not something new, considered normal and happens globally. Donors (corporations, organizations, individuals and so) want the individual member to vote in their interest even if it comes to crossing party lines.

This is de facto confession by Imran that his PTI MPAs in KPK Provincial Assembly are a sellable commodity. He must know better how they were given tickets by him. All his talk of high ideals seem to have evaporated. He was alleging without proof that all except him were corrupt. Now he is alleging his own MPAs are corrupt. Amazing.

PTI is clearly a very un-disciplined political party that is losing traction very quickly due to internal rifts, and confusion at the leadership level. No doubt, in my opinion the most disciplined political parties in Pakistan are MQM, Jamaat, and JUI-F.

I don't get this. IK is not sure about the loyalty of its own MPAs? I believe it happened during dharna as well when few MNAs from KPK refused to resign. What kind of party decipline is this? they are not listening to their own leader. I believe PTI failed to scrutinize these people before giving them party tickets.

Imran Khan and his party cadres will regret if he really disbands the KPK assembly for the wrong doings of individual party parliamentarins. Instead, he should fully expose such black sheep and kick them out of the party fold. Other pti parliamentarians who are not involved in corruption should not be made to pay price for the black sheep's corruption.

IK shouldn't fall into the trap of the agents of Fazlur Rahman, Aftab Sherpao and Isfandyar Wali who are hailing his intention to dissolve the KPK assembly. IK should learn a lesson of Indian AAP's Arvind Kejerwal. He dissolved his Delhi assembly only after 49 days. Second time, his lofty claims and promises earned him a landslide victory and now what is happening there. His own party members are out to oust him. So, please IK don't take wrong decision about the fate of your assembly.

If he has to dissolve the assembly, dissolve it now before Senate elections. After the fact dissolution will achieve little to block the horse traded Senate, unless a court of law declares it null and void.

The so called MPAs of PTI in KPK bought their way into assembly. The tickets were sold to highest bidders. The issue was hot and well known during the elections. This is no secret. Now it is time for them to make that money back with profit. When you gather a team a curropts then you know that ur team can be bought. IK knows who is in his team. No wonder he did not allow individual MNAs to meet the speaker for resignation from assembly. How come MQM doesn't have this problem? Because the poor and middle class candidate don't spent a rupee in elections hence they don't have to make up any. Common sense, just not very common
