Mushtaq hopes for recall

Published September 23, 2003

LAHORE, Sept 22: Leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed said on Monday that he had proved his performance and fitness and now it was the job of national selectors to recalled him.

Mushtaq, who returned home earlier in the day after a successful English county season with newly crowned champions Sussex, said that he took 105 wickets and bowled more than 800 overs, which were ample proof of his performance and fitness.

The 33-year-old, out of favour since he last played for Pakistan on the tour of New Zealand in 2001, claimed that he came back to Pakistan in the hope of securing a place in the team against South Africa.

But the decision of South African cricket board to cancel the tour left him deeply disappointed like the millions of cricket fans in the country.
