RAWALPINDI: Senior Superintendent of Police (investigation) Haroon Joyia, who worked as the acting city police officer for about a week, has also been given the charge of the district police officer (DPO) Attock.

He will be commanding the most sensitive district of Punjab on the border of KP and Rawalpindi.

SSP Joyia was given the additional charge of the CPO Rawalpindi after the departure of Humayun Bashir Tarar to join a senior management course on February 23.

On Saturday, Mr Joyia was given the charge of DPO Attock after Israr Ahmed Abbasi was transferred to Rawalpindi as the CPO.

Mr Abbasi, who earlier served as the SSP operation Rawalpindi, is likely to assume the charge on Monday.

According to sources, SSPs Mujahid Akbar and Nazir Ghara were also interviewed for the post of the CPO.

The posts of the regional police officer and the senior superintendent of police (operation) remain vacant in Rawalpindi.

The post of SSP operation has been vacant since May 2014 when Mian Maqbool was transferred after he believed that it would not be suitable for him to continue working under his junior, Humayun Bashir Tarar.

Akhtar Umar Hayat Laleka, who was posted in Rawalpindi in November 2013, was transferred to the Central Police Office Lahore on Feb 12, 2015.

Since then, SSP regional investigation branch Dr Mohammad Azam has been given the additional charge of the RPO.

A source said senior police officers were reluctant to accept the vacant posts in Rawalpindi.
