PESHAWAR: Bodies of three men recovered earlier last week were identified as the perpetrators involved in the deadly attack on Peshawar’s Bacha Khan International Airport on December 15, 2012, a government official said.

According to sources, all three men belonged to a proscribed banned organisation of Khyber Agency and were among the militants who fired rockets at the Pakistan Air Force base inside Bacha Khan Airport.

The bodies, which were found at a nullah in Peshawar’s Mattani area, were recognised as Commander Noor Mohammad, Commander Kemya Gul and Commander Sher Muhammad — all of whom were wanted for being the masterminds of the fatal attack.

According to sources, the three men were also suspected to be involved in the rocket attacks on the Sheikh Muhammadi grid station near Peshawar which left seven people dead on April 2, 2013.

A spokesman for the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan had accepted responsibility for the attack on Bacha Khan Airport, saying their target was the air force base.

The seven killed in the attack included five militants while 40 people suffered injuries, according to government officials.
