American Horror Story actor Jamie Brewer made history as she became the first model with Down syndrome to walk the ramp during New York Fashion Week, reported USA Today.

The 30-year-old actor known for the horror series wore an outfit designed by Carrier Hammer. She walked for Hammer’s project ‘Role Models Not Runway Models’ which aims at promoting inspiring women. All participants wore dresses designed specifically for them.

"We feature incredible influential women on the runaway. CEOs, executives, activist, actresses, anyone who is the top of the field, top of their game," Hammer told USA TODAY Network.

"Jamie is an absolute star," Hammer said and added that the actor was an activist for people with intellectual disabilities.

Speaking to Today Brewer said:

'Young girls and even young women… [see me] and say: "Hey, if she can do it so can I.” “It’s a true inspiration being a role model for any young women to [encourage them] in being who they are and showing who they are.”

The show was held at Lightbox, a digital arts and events place in New York City.

The actor tweeted as she got ready for the ramp:

Hundreds of women lauded Hammer for her initiative after Dr Danielle Sheypuk became the first woman to ‘walk’ the runway in a wheelchair. Her project is also supported by Katie Driscoll who run a NPO that calls for quality for people with disabilities.
