KOHAT: The Divisional Commissioner Syed Jamaluddin on Wednesday assured the filling station owners in Karak, Hangu and Kohat districts of solving the fuel price issue amicably.

Mr Jamaluddin made the assurance during a meeting with a delegation of the fuel station owners association here on Wednesday. The delegation was led by Hammad Hussain.

The commissioner directed the three deputy commissioners to hold meetings with the petrol pump owners in the division and fix the fuel prices with mutual understanding.

The fuel station owners complained that administrations of the three districts often raided their stations and imposed huge fine amounting to Rs30,000 to Rs40,000 on them for selling petrol and diesel on rates other than those fixed by Ogra. They said that earning a small margin was their right as they were bearing huge expenses on transportation of fuel from Peshawar and on meeting other requirements of Ogra.

After the meeting, the association members told Dawn that Ogra had fixed rate of petrol at Rs71.05 per litre and that of diesel at Rs81.37, but they sold the same at Rs71.90 and Rs82.30, respectively, to cover their expenses.

It is to mention here that earlier the filling stations were provided petrol and diesel from Kohat Depot located on the Rawalpindi Road, which had been closed down in 2008. Now they had to bring the fuel from Taro Jabba in Peshawar, which costs them extra.

SECURITY AT SCHOOLS: The local administration on Wednesday issued warning to 66 schools and colleges that they would be closed if they didn’t have satisfactory security arrangements.

It is to mention here that district police officer Mohammad Shoeb Ashraf had constituted a committee for ensuring that schools and colleges in the district had the required security arrangements in place.

The committee inspected 166 educational institutions, and found 66 of them having failed to make the required security arrangements like hiring and providing weapons to watchmen and installation of CCTV cameras.

The DPO warned the administrators of the educational institutions that they should put in place the security requirements immediately, otherwise criminal cases would be registered against them.

AFGHANS ARRESTED: Ten illegally staying Afghans were arrested in raids in various parts of the district, and weapons were recovered from them.

Similarly, the district police, under the House Ordinance, registered cases against owners of 13 houses and hotels for not having proper identification papers and registration of guests.
