PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has exonerated former secretary sports of charges of transferring, last year, discretionary funds to the personal account of the then provincial minister for sports, Mehmood Khan.

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak had suspended secretary sports Ahmad Hassan Khan along with two other officers for transferring official funds to the minister’s personal account.

On the directive of Mehmood Khan, Rs1.8 million was transferred from minister’s discretionary fund to his personnel account. The government had constituted an inquiry committee to probe the matter. However, the committee had cleared the minister, while suspended three officers, including the secretary sports.

A notification issued here said that the then secretary sports Ahmad Hassan Khan had been “exonerated” of the charges.

Mehmood Khan has been given the portfolio of irrigation.
