KOHAT: Adviser to the chief minister on sports and archeology, Amjid Khan Afridi, and his brother, Senator Abbas Afridi of PML-N, on Monday inaugurated a gas supply project in Noor Elahi Colony here in the city after the vacation of a stay, which was obtained by the ruling party’s MNA Sheharyar Afridi from the high court two months ago on the grounds that the gas project was a federal subject and only he could inaugurate such schemes.

Amjid Afridi had filed the appeal in the PHC for vacation of the stay order.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, which was organised by the PML-N senator, Amjid Afridi criticised MNA Sheharyar for ‘creating hurdles’ to the development of Kohat. He accused the MNA of doing politics when it came to launching of uplift schemes in the district.

The CM’s adviser alleged that Shehryar Afridi and his cronies only distributed wheelchairs and sewing machines just for a photo session.

On the other hand, PTI MNA Shehryar Afridi, PTI MPA Ziaullah Bangash and provincial law minister Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi on Monday also held a separate public meeting at Seni Gumbat, the constituency of Mr Amjid Afridi, to show their political muscle.

The MNA warned the CM’s adviser to ‘hold his tongue’, otherwise consequences would be fatal for him.

Shehryar Afridi said that the senator should pay attention to the plight of IDPs instead of holding public meetings in Kohat to what he said ‘gain cheap popularity’.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Qureshi and Mr Bangash asked people not to believe in the ‘hollow slogans’ of the two brothers and reject them in next elections

The tussle between the CM’s advisor, his brother, who is also a federal minister, and MNA and three MPAs, has been going on for the last six months over launch of development projects, according to local people.

They said that the CM’s adviser and his brother were interested in development of the district, but the other group had been creating hurdles to the development process.

They accused the law minister of not visiting his constituency after winning the elections and the MNA of obtaining stay order on the gas project.

Meanwhile, famous tailor, Chacha Hamayun, who won the PTI’s district president elections, has also developed differences with the MNA and three MPAs, including the provincial law minister, for their alleged incompetence to launch even a single development project since PTI government came into power. He accused them of being part of the commission mafia.
