An iconic car but not a pleasure to drive. The first car without a radiator and the engine in the trunk. Hence all the jokes associated with the spare engine.

This was a classic German car with its engine at the back, they produced the same design for many many years, it had a strong body with no radiator as fresh air circulated via the engine, great German technology.Enjoyed driving it.

Karachi looks to be a very cosmopolitan city with modern buildings and areas...unlike our perception. WV beetle is my favorite old classic also.

The pre-90's VW Beetles as well as the VW vans were ugly. The loud -- thuk, thuk, thuk -- engine sound from them was irritating. However, the modern re-designs of the Beetle and the Westfalia van are quite pleasing and their engines aren't prickly to the ears either.

Wow!! Fond memories. My first car was a Beetle 1972, left hand drive 1600 cc beauty. University, dating, first job, marriage, first child, all in my Silver Bullet. Man!
If I could only rewind, I'd go back to it in the blink of an eye.

Agreeing with all the comments one could look at it from the angle of an environmentally potent cultural and technological contribution towards class warfare.

In Mexico the saying is "VW beettle is like a bellybutton everyone has one". Most of the Taxis are VW beetles. The car was designed by Ferdinad Porche on Hitler's request to make a "People's car". Great car.
