WELLINGTON: Sri Lankan Nuwan Kulasekara has been reprimanded by cricket’s governing body for “unacceptable” aggressive behaviour during the One-day International against New Zealand in Wellington.

The fast bowler was charged with behaviour that is either “contrary to the spirit of the game or brings the game into disrepute,” the International Cricket Council said in its ruling delivered on Friday.

After dismissing New Zealand batsman Luke Ronchi in Thursday night’s match, Kulasekara “aggressively changed direction towards the dismissed batsman, which was considered unacceptable by the match officials,” the ICC ruling said.

“Kulasekara accepted the offence and the proposed sanction of an official reprimand. “Sri Lanka won the match by 34 runs with Kulasekara’s confrontation of Ronchi the only sour note in the series won by New Zealand 4-2.

The ICC has vowed to crackdown on what it sees as “disrespectful behaviour” ahead of the World Cup which starts in New Zealand and Australia on February 14.
