KARAK: The students of the boys’ degree college, Banda Daud Shah, have complained about unavailability of teachers of science subjects, playground, transportation and drinking water facilities.

The issues were raised at a meeting of the all students federation chaired by its president Raza Khan Khattak here on Monday.

The students said that posts of teachers to science subjects remained vacant since long because of which their precious time was being wasted.

They also complained about unavailability of potable water in the college, which forced them to bring water in bottles from their homes.

On the occasion, Mr Khattak demanded provision of a bus for the college to resolve transportation problem of students. He also called for repair of the road leading to the college, and construction of a playground.

The students’ leader regretted that the elected representatives of the district had never bothered to visit the college to get firsthand information about the problems of students.

He said that lawmakers provided funds for the projects, which furthered their political interests, but promoting education wasn’t’ on their priority list.

He regretted that the tehsil was producing millions of rupees in revenue on daily basis from its oil and gas wealth, but the lone college of the area lacked basic facilities.

He demanded of the foreign oil and gas company, MOL, to utilise the community welfare fund on resolving students’ problems. He also urged award of scholarships to the students.

ANTI-MEASLES CAMPAIGN: The health will start a special anti-measles campaign for the children of the internally displaced people, and has asked the citizens and ulema to support the effort.

This was announced by the coordinator of the Extended Programme on Immunisation (EPI) Dr Yousaf and district polio in charge Dr Inamullah while talking to mediapersons here on Monday.

They said that a total of 6,500 children of IDPs living in different parts of the district would be vaccinated against measles during the campaign.

They said that the campaign would be launched today (Tuesday) at the Women and Children Hospital, Karak.
