KARACHI: Four favourite and a co-favourite, including a pair of stable-mates, obliged all and sundry in a mediocre five-race card of the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

After failing to finish on the board in the first two runs of the year, four-year-old dark bay colt Tejori opened his 2015 account by getting the better of bay colt Silk Master by three-quarter-of-a-length as co-favourite filly Shandar Love finished third ahead of Lucky Lyna.

Tejori, which belonged to the stables of owner M. Zaid Khan Tessori and trained by Mohyuddin, was piloted home by Zubair Ahmed.

The owner-trainer pair tasted the fruit of a double when rider M. Nasir galloped six-year-old chestnut horse Gold Horse home by two-lengths-and-a-half over filly Sensational to land the fifth race which was also the day’s feature event.

Mare Snow Fairy had to be content with third place, three-and-a-half lengths away while filly Loyal Lady completed the frame nine lengths further behind among six starters.

In an earlier race, bay colt Karobar atoned for the last two defeats by imposing a three-and-a-half lengths victory over bay horse All The Way. The winning horse was saddled by Mohyuddin, who ended the day with a splendid treble.

At the outset, champion jockey Mohammad Essa guided filly Fly Free to an authoritative 10-length victory over filly Sonia Again. Gumnam and Grey Song followed the two in same order.

After the race, rider of Grey Song, Pervez Ali, was penalised for ‘unsatisfactory’ riding on his mount and was banned for two months.

In the third race, rider Zaki Zakir powered chestnut horse Choco Bar to three lengths victory over Meri Sahiba as filly Blue Eyes settled for third place followed by colt Soldier King in a field of half a dozen horses.
