ISLAMABAD: The capital police on Friday sent a complaint to the district and sessions court (west) against a bailiff for allegedly backing drug peddlers.

A police official said the report was prepared by Station House Officer Shahzad Town Inspector Munawar Ali Maher, seeking action against the accused for allegedly misusing his position and trying to get police help for drug peddlers.

The official said on January 9, the police were informed that drug peddlers were operating from a graveyard located in Shahzad Town.

A police team was sent to the area but before its arrival there, the drug peddlers had escaped, the official said.

However, the police found a motorcycle without a registration plate abandoned there and shifted it to the police station.

The police believed that the bike was owned by one of the drug peddlers. The official said on Thursday night a man reached the police station and introduced himself as a bailiff of the district and sessions court.

He sought a report from the police to get back the bike on Superdari from the court.

The bailiff was told that it looked awkward that he had come to the police station to get the bike of the drug peddlers released. But the bailiff started arguing with the police and asked them to prepare a report. The official said the bailiff also threatened the police officials with dire consequences and assaulted them.

The matter was brought into the knowledge of senior officers who ordered the registration of a case against the bailiff.

Later, the police arrested the bailiff after booking him under section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging of his duty), 186 (obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The accused was produced before a court on Friday which released him on bail.
