PESHAWAR: Dozens of activists of a politico-religious group on Tuesday staged a rally here to condemn the French satirical magazine for publishing the caricature of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The activists, less than 80 in numbers, gathered at the Shahi Bagh to protest against Charlie Hebdo -- the French weekly magazine that had published caricature of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Led by Maulana Pir Mohammad Chishti and Pir Sajjad Badshah, the activists raised slogans against the French magazine.

The speakers said they would oppose the caricatures of all revered prophets be that of Jesus Christ or Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Two gunmen had stormed into the offices of the French magazine and killed twelve people, including its editor and a Muslim cop.

Pakistan has officially condemned the attack on Charlie Hebdo. Police were not present at Shahi Bagh, where the protest organisers said, they had initially planned to offer prayers for the gunmen but later decided to organise a protest rally against the magazine’s policy of ridiculing revered religious figures.
