PTI announces 'dharna convention' on January 18

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan announced on Monday that his party will hold a dharna convention on January 18, DawnNews reported.

Speaking during a press conference at Bani Gala in Islamabad, Imran Khan said the party will announce its next course of action at the convention.

The PTI leader said that if a proper investigation is not undertaken into alleged rigging in the 2013 General Elections, his party will once again lead protests in the country.

“If an impartial judicial commission is not setup, we will take to the streets,” said the PTI chairman.

He also said those involved in vote rigging should be charged under Article 6 of the Constitution.

"The people responsible for rigging the vote are the enemies of the state and should be punished for it," he said.

When speaking about an inquiry report on NA-122 vote verification, the PTI chairman said the commission has stated that there were over 34,000 bogus votes in total.

"The country will only progress if free and fair elections are held," he emphasised at the press conference.

Imran Khan had said that the PTI had decided to call of its protests because of the terrorist attack in Peshawar.

He stated that his party would not be a roadblock in the fight against terrorism.

Last year, thousands of protesters led by Imran Khan's PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Tahir ul-Qadri, took to the streets and demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over allegations of corruption and vote-rigging in the May 2013 polls.
