KARACHI, Sept 14: According to a recent survey conducted by the Sindh education department, regarding public educational institutions in the province, 12 school buildings shown in the official record were non-existent.

The survey conducted with foreign assistance further revealed that the number of closed schools’ buildings was higher than stated in the record, provincial education minister Irfanullah Marwat told the PPI.

Mr Marwat said that he was told that in all 5,000 schools were closed, of which 3,300 were made functional and only 1,700 were yet to be opened, but the mapping proved this claim wrong as over 3,000 schools were found inoperative.

He said that to make these schools functional through providing teaching staff, the government had allocated Rs500 million, and added that: “I think all these closed schools could not be made functional as it has been observed that there were 20 or 22 school buildings in a union council, where required number of students were not available.”—PPI
