K-Electric announces development of 225MW LNG power plant

KARACHI: K-Electric has announced on Friday development of a high efficiency 225MW combined-cycle LNG fired power plant at Port Qasim in Karachi.

A press statement released by the company said that two memorandum of understandings (MoUs) have been signed with Engro Corporation Limited to increase power supply to the port city.

By introducing LNG in the fuel mix, it would achieve fuel diversity and enhance power availability in a relatively shorter period of time, the statement said.

The LNG terminal would be developed by Elengy Terminal Pakistan Limited (ETPL).

Engro Corporation Limited is the lead developer of the project and would likely engage General Electric (GE) for investment and to provide assistance in technology.

Since Nawaz government i do hear a lot project beging assigned or there are deals, but in the 18 months there is not 1 project that is finished!!! Even the quaid e azam solar park of 100mb first phase isn't finish and the date was december 2014

KESC has been performing really well since after privatization! They are taking initiative and not depending on government for handouts. Other distribution companies should also be privatized.

@Idrees patience. the government doesn't have a magic lamp! developmental speeds of medium to large scale projects is one of fastest in MENAP region and even beyond when compared to some european standards. p.s. december is not over yet

Who is blocking the Karachi nuclear plants, who is blocking Karachi Progress;225MW is nothing for Karachi, need at least 3-4 1000MW Nuclear power plants for Karachi. Shame on corrupt people blocking the Power Plants from China

We need to build more dams. It servers multi purpose. Electricity, water storage for farming, recreation area and also flood which destroy's not only life also effect country economically. Private power sector don't want the dams. They don't care about country or people they have to make money at all cost by blood or destruction, so no dam construction

Construction of Dams is the ultimate solution from energy, water preservation to progress of agriculture sector but building dams takes time plus no speedy commission which is the basic demand of gov functionaries
