PESHAWAR, Sept 12: A Karachi-based transporter from the NWFP, Mohammad Alam, whose daughter married an Ismaili boy, has kidnapped a female relative of his son-in-law, police officials said.

Chitral police have registered an FIR at Garam Chashma police station against four persons for kidnapping the woman, Khush Tila, wife of Zar Beg.

One of the accused, Mohammad Anwar, is in police custody while other accused Mohammad Alam, his son Shoaib Mufti, and Wadood are still at large.

“The married couple, Mohammad Hussain and Ayesha, has been taken to a safe place for security reasons,” SP Chitral Mohammad Saeed said.

The police, he said, had sought assistance from Mansehra police to find out whereabouts of the kidnapped woman. He admitted the police could not ascertain the location where the woman was.

“The police have also approached Karachi police to arrest Mohammad Alam,” the SP said, adding the kidnappers had warned that if the couple was not handed over to them, they would kidnap more persons.

District Nazim Chitral Shahzada Mohiudin told Dawn on Friday that the couple had been shifted to a safe location and the administration would arrange a reconciliatory jirga after September 20 to resolve the matter amicably.

He said the kidnapped woman had nothing to do with the issue.

He added Mohammad Hussain belonged to Garma Chashma (Chitral) and was in Karachi in connection with his job at a hospital.

The couple tied the nuptial knot a little more than a year ago.
