RAWALPINDI: Gas leak claimed the life of a couple on their wedding night in Kahuta, police said.

Sheikh Amir Qurban and Sadaf, who got married on Thursday, were found unconscious in their room on Friday.

The police said after the couple did not wake up till afternoon, the family members knocked the door of their room but got no response.

They forcibly opened the door and found the couple lying unconscious and the room filled with gas.

Khuram Qurban, the brother of Amir, told the police that Sadaf died on the spot and his brother on way to the hospital.

Preliminary investigation showed that the couple went to sleep leaving the gas heater on. Sometime at night, the heater’s flame went off and it started leaking gas which filled in the room.

The bodies of the couple were handed over to their family members after some paper work, said the police.
